DOVER COMMUNITY RADIO

Stephen Kennett Monday Lunchtime Live with Stephen Kennett.

I have always had an interest in radio and as a boy can remember the old pirate radio stations and the early days of radio 1, and as a teenager I was a member of the BBC Radio Brighton Saturday children's club Cabbages & Kings in which youngsters were invited into the studio to do book and record reviews etc.

In the mid 70's I joined Hospital Radio Southlands in Shoreham by Sea and later went onto to become a member of Hospital Radio Crawley.

In the mid 80's I moved to Kent and joined up with The Gateway Hospital Broadcasting Service based at Buckland hospital in Dover.

In 1991 I gained my first experience of FM broadcasting thanks to Radio Cracker a nationwide network of 28 day restricted licensed local radio stations.

Following on from these broadcast I was invited to take part in further 28 day radio broadcast in the Dover and Folkestone area's made by White Cliffs Sound and Shepway Sound.

I have been a volunteer broadcaster on DCR  since DCR's launch on the internet in 2006 and have been presenting a selection of music and memories shows featuring music and headlines from the 50's through to the 80's.

I now present Monday Lunchtime Live most Monday's from 12 to 2 featuring a wide variety of music, travel updates and community information.

Outside of radio I enjoy travelling and visiting heritage railways and I am a volunteer member of The Spa Valley Railway which operate heritage steam & diesel trains from Tunbridge Wells to Eridge. One of my other interests is viewing Britain's coastline from the Paddle Steamer Waverley which offers excursions around the UK, and in recent months I have had the opportunity to do some volunteering on the ship during its visits to The South Coast & Thames.
